Little Birdies

For breakfast I usually feed all the kids at the same time, but I sometimes forget to feed myself or I wait to eat alone so I can enjoy my food instead of trying to eat quickly in-between giving bites to the babies. Lately however, if I try to eat anything when the kids are not eating, Nels and Solvei want some too (even if they are already fed). They will come and stand next to me until I give them something, like little birdies waiting to be fed. Nels will take a bite and then impatiently wait for another, staying next to me and making sure I know he’s there.

Solvei will take a bite, go play around until her mouth is empty and then come back for more (but never getting in front of Nels).

Happy Happy Birthday Daddy!

It’s Nate’s birthday!
(This is the best picture he would let me take of him)
Gavin and I, and the twins, went to pick up a cake today as a surprise (I even paid in cash so he wouldn’t know I had bought one). We hadn’t ordered one so we went to see what they had – adults just have to like what they get, only the kids get a special order. There were only two cakes that were the flavors that Nate likes, a 1/4-sheet princess cake or a 1/8-sheet bright blue cake……we went with the blue one.
We had a babysitter come over so we could go out to dinner. I fed the kids dinner before we left and Solvei and Nels were just finishing up when the doorbell rang.
We went out to the Iron Chef steakhouse again, since it’s the best place that is also close (we don’t want the babysitter over too late because she has a curfew too). We finished dinner right at the kids’ bedtime so we told the babysitter to let them stay up so they could have birthday cake.
Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you!
The trouble with blue frosting….it makes everything blue – lips, tongue, teeth, fingers, and is pretty resistant to toothpaste.

Take my picture

After taking pictures of the kids last night I had left my point-n-shoot camera where Solvei could reach it, I know because she brought it to me this morning. She is such a cheese – she gave me the camera, pointed at it, then pointed at herself. And of course what one gets, they all want, so here are pictures of all the kids from this morning.

Speaking of cheese, Saedi insisted on posing when I took her picture!

POPCORN!!!

They are definitely Nate’s children. All the kids LOVE popcorn.

We got an air-pop popcorn popper (say that three times fast) and I am really glad we did, it makes much better popcorn than the microwave bags ever could. We ate dinner a little early today so when we were watching cartoons with the kids this evening we made popcorn.

I think it’s funny how the big kids, while still eating popcorn, are pretty fixated on the TV, but the little kids are fixated on the popcorn bowl. 😉

Copy cat(s)

After dinner we were all in the living room watching cartoons. Saedi had gotten a pillow from one of the chairs and laid down on the floor. When Solvei saw what she had done she wanted to copy her, so she went and got her own pillow, put it right next to Saedi’s and laid down. Of course whatever one does, the other has to do as well. Nels joined in the pillow party too.

Nobunny knows Easter better than him

This is what the Easter beagle…I mean bunny, has left for us.

As the kids were coming down the stairs I was hoping they wouldn’t notice where some of the eggs were hidden and go for the baskets.

It sort of worked for the big kids but Solvei went straight for the eggs and didn’t care about the other stuff. I was able to show her how to put what she had found into her basket and she (and Nels) thought that was VERY interesting.

It’s a good thing the Easter bunny puts all the eggs for the big kids where Solvei and Nels can’t reach.

This was Solvei and Nels’ first Easter that they have been old enough to hunt for eggs. Solvei got so excited!

She picked up most off the eggs, but Nels didn’t really notice because he figured out he could open the first one he found.

They are so much fun to watch!

They are pretty good at sharing and “making sure the other has some too” – as long as they have some first.

When all were found, Solvei and Nels decided to trade eggs for a few minutes.

This was the first that all four of them have been exposed to the delight that is Cadbury Creme eggs (I think only Saedi’s had them before and that was a while ago). Solvei and Nels both tried to eat theirs with the wrappers still on (I know it’s candy just let me eat it!). Just look at the haul our kids came away with, and we only got two small bags of candy for them.

To make sure there were no sugar comas, we let them have one piece of candy and then no more until after the “healthy” breakfast of pancakes and bacon.
There’s nothing like celebrating Christian holidays with the use of pork products: Bacon for Breakfast and Ham for Dinner…I made ham, funeral potatoes, and Jello for dinner. Yum!
After all the fun of the morning, Saedi asked what the next holiday was. As I named off what was coming up (mother’s day, memorial day, father’s day, fourth of July…) she got more and more disappointed. I figured out pretty quickly that it’s because there isn’t another candy/present holiday clear until Halloween! What’s a kid to do?!

What a stinker!!

Everyday, little things

Just a few cute little somethings, that are so everyday, but I know I won’t remember when they’ve outgrown them.

EVERY time I get Solvei and Nels dressed, when I pull the shirt on they both say BOO when their head pops out of the shirt. Probably every kid does it (I think I remember Saedi and Gavin doing the same thing) but it’s still cute every time. After dressing them they will give you a hug as you lift them down from the changing table.

Solvei has started coming to sit next to you on the couch so that she can lay on your arm (she will also lay on you when sitting next to her at the table).

I gave Nels a piece of chocolate the other day. Solvei was in the other room and didn’t see it – didn’t know that I had given him anything. Nels goes into the room where she is, doesn’t say anything, and a few minutes later Solvei comes to me asking for chocolate. Somehow he had to make sure she got some too.

Happy Snappy!

Nate needed what the military calls a “happy snap” for work. I just happen to have a nice digital camera, so we did it ourselves. I was quite pleased with the photo so I thought I would share (incognito of course). Doesn’t he look good in uniform?

Hand-me-downs

This was one of my favorite of Saedi’s dresses when she was about this age, so when I put it on Solvei I had to take a picture.

When I was uploading, I looked at the one I have of Saedi and think it is remarkable how much they look alike.

Me too? Me too?

Nels is still not feeling well – runny nose, cough and sore throat. Somehow, miraculously, Solvei has still not caught it. Every time I give Nels medicine for his symptoms, Solvei wants some too (no, you’re not sick). Every time I wipe his nose, she wants hers wiped too (no, you’re not sick).

This morning he was coughing a lot from the phlegm, so I decided to “suck him out” and went to get the nasal aspirator. When I came back and Solvei saw it, she knew what it was for (I know because she pulled this face…)

(and then this face…)

She looked so excited that I think she wanted a turn at that too (no silly girl, you’re not sick!).
