Abra-Cadabra!

The kids got a “magic set” as a kids meal toy with dinner from Jack-in-the-Box tonight. It has a magic wand, magician style, some fake cards and instructions for a really lame card trick. The cards will shortly “mysteriously disappear” but the wands are fun.

Solvei went around magic-ing everything…

including Daddy…

for probably half an hour before she finally let Nels have a turn.

Gavin asked me if I wanted to try his. So I tried to make the dishes clean themselves and Gavin disappear, neither of which worked. I gave him back his wand and said I think it might be broken. He told me, “It’s not broken, it’s made of plastic. It’s just a toy!”

I LOVE Solvei’s face in this one…

I now see many declarations of “Expelliarmus” in my future.

Spring has sprung

Over the last three days the cherry blossom trees all over town have come into full bloom. This is the one in our front yard.

Because of all this warm weather we spent several hours outside playing today. The neighborhood kids were playing outside as well. Saedi and her friends spent some time picking the blossoms off her friend’s tree and collecting them in a basket.

The rest of the playtime involved more rocks, bike riding, general kid antics and more pictures that are too cute to keep to myself. Everyone had fun.

Modeling

I loved this dress when Saedi wore it, but when she was in this size it was summer time. I had picked up tights and undershirts to make some of the clothes in this size warmer, and now I think I like this dress even more now. Solvei has the worst habit of not holding still whenever I have the camera, so I almost always miss the right shot with her. I wanted to take a picture of the outfit so I told her to hold still. She didn’t, she went to the stairs and posed instead.

Parker tongue

Tongue out means concentration, just ask my family. I’ve seen it in all my kids.

What makes YOU lucky?

On the last grocery shopping trip I bought some yogurt covered raisins for the kids, on a whim. The kids like them but it’s not something I think to buy usually.

You would not believe how excited Gavin was when he saw them. They’re just raisins after all, but it sure made his day. He was having them with lunch today and declared that he was the “luckiest boy, because I can fit a whole handful of raisins in my mouth at once!”

My baby "dolls"

Saedi got a doll stroller when she was little. She liked to sit in it more than any of her dolls got a chance. I have pictures of her sitting in it, in our apartment when we lived in Washington before. I don’t recall exactly but Gavin may have done the same.

Solvei and Nels have both discovered the joy of the stroller. I was fixing our door today when Nels brought out the stroller and sat in it to watch me.

Solvei came out and discovered him, and then tried to push him out so she could have it.

And this is her getting mad because he wouldn’t budge.

I have neighbors ask if they get along, and most times they do, but when they fight over toys the world comes to an end. It really is funny, and tragic at the same time.

He did eventually get bored with it and she got her turn.

I wish…

We are big fans of Woot at our house (woot.com that is). We have ordered many things from this site. They have a subsection of commerce dedicated to shirts, which is where we’ve made a large portion of the orders we have placed. One of the shirts that I have from here (graphic shown) is called I Wish…

At naptime today Gavin was looking at my shirt and asked what the elephant was doing. I told him that it was supposed to be wishing on the star, so he asked what it was wishing for. Not really knowing, I asked him what he thought the elephant would wish for. (Are you ready for this?)

His response was, “A pogo stick.”

After giggling, I asked him why an elephant would wish for a pogo stick. He said it would help him reach more apples on the tree to eat.

Good Night, Teddy

Solvei and Nels got a teddy bear soft book for Christmas. Solvei loves to play with it. She is so proud when she does all the actions.

Going goth

Saedi got herself dressed this morning (picked out the outfit completely), so I teased her. I asked her if she was going goth on us. She even wore her Heelys with the pink skulls and cross bones.

And of course, when I got the camera out, Solvei insisted I take her picture. She actually pointed at the camera and then at herself. Well, how could I refuse?

I then decided the first picture of Saedi looked a bit like a mug shot, so I took another that was a little more sweet. Solvei just had to be in that one, too.

Teaching them the ways of the geek

We are a video gaming family. We have a Wii, a PS3, a PSP, and a DS. Nate and I have seen every installment of The Guild.

Nate found some geek shirts and we had to get them – for Solvei and Nels. They are Level 1 Human shirts (fellow geeks will get the reference).

While taking pictures for this, I got one that shows Solvei’s eyes beautifully.
