winter

It’s starting to be spring?

It’s only January! We come from a land of ice and snow so this is a little strange.

It has warmed up a bit lately, enough that the trees lining the main road into our neighborhood now have buds on all the branches. One can only hope that it is not a false alarm only to be frozen again soon, as happens often where I am used to. I think that it may not be though. I was woken this morning by a rather large, and noisy, flock of geese passing by our house. I heard another large flock this evening.

It snowed!

This morning, the first thing I heard when I came out of my room was,

“Mommy! Mommy!
It snowed last night!”

So I looked out the window, and then chuckled to myself. “No, It’s not snow it’s just frost.”

Next I had to explain the difference between snow and frost. Even so, it has been pretty cold. We’ve had to get out the winter hats and gloves, and switch from sweatshirts and light jackets to proper winter coats.

When we moved in here the rental house came with a fridge. We already had a fridge, so we keep ours in the garage and use it for extra space to keep the food, and lots and lots of milk, we buy to feed 6 mouths. I’ve never had refrigerated food storage in a non-climate-controlled environment, so the thought never occurred to me that a fridge doesn’t only cool it regulates the temperature inside the fridge. When I went to get milk from the garage it was warmer when I opened the fridge then it was in the garage already.
