Details

What is wrong with this picture?

You might have to look really close to be able to tell, but I noticed as soon as I got them up from nap this afternoon.

Nels and Solvei are on the wrong beds and if you look a close you will see that they swapped the pillows and blankets too.

Principles of Magnetism

Gavin loves to play with magnets.

He takes a fridge magnet all around the house (to see what it will stick to) on a regular basis.

While visiting Grandma Lori, his favorite thing to play with is a roll of round magnets. He spreads them out, builds towers and shapes with them, sticks them to each other, sticks them all over the fridge, sticks them all over grandmas house; he LOVES them.

He has learned what magnets stick to, mostly through trial and error.

Today we drove past the airforce museum and Gavin was able to see the airplanes from a close-ish distance. He thought they were really neat. For (I think) the first time, he realized the planes were made of metal and asked to make sure he was right. So if a plane is made of metal, a magnet would stick to it right? I’m pretty sure he was trying to ask, but instead it came out as:

“Do airplanes stick to refrigerators?”

What Nels sees

Driving Saedi to school this morning, Nels told me about every car he saw. Our drive is mostly on busy roads (2-4 lane highways) so there are LOTS of other cars to look at. Towards the end of the drive he ran out of cars but that didn’t stop his commentary.
“Momma car!…….Momma car!…….Momma car!…….Momma car!…………….Momma grass!”

Bits of Solvei

Solvei has discovered she loves to be contradictory. At any time, but most often in the car, she will engage this attitude. Most car rides are now filled with “yes…no…yes…no…” and “uh-huh…uhn-uh…uh-huh…uhn-uh…” arguments between her and anyone who will play the counter-part.

Nate has been gone for a couple weeks and isn’t supposed to be back for a few more. Solvei really misses him. These are a few reasons why I know for sure:

  • She has realized that I talk to Nate on the phone everyday, so now whenever I am on the phone she asks if she can talk too (“Daddy hello?”) even when it isn’t him I’m talking to.

  • Every morning when I get the little ones up and dressed, Solvei asks “Daddy?” with a where-did-it-go expression. I tell her where he is and she says in her saddest and most disappointed tone, “oh.”

Solvei has become a hair twirler – mostly when her hair is in pigtails but sometimes when it’s not. Recently in the car she fell asleep while twirling her hair.

Identical Twins?

In the bath today I did up Nels’ mo-hawk with shampoo.

Solvei thought it was so funny she wanted me to do it to her. So she got her own faux-hawk to match.

On, please – Off, please…..

Solvei loves coats. One of the reasons is that she loves to have them put on so that she can take them off. Many times a day she will come to me to put a coat on her, zip it up and pull up the hood if it has one (if it doesn’t she whines, tries to pull the collar over her head and is then very upset that the “hood” isn’t working).

When Nate gets home from work and I’ve already gotten tired of the coat game, she will pester him to play it with her many times.

She has finally discovered that if she puts the hood on her head, then she can put her arms through the sleeves without needing my help – sort of. The only problem is that the right arm goes in fine (hand first) but the left arm tends to try to go in elbow first and then gets stuck. So now she comes to me saying, “Mommy…mo-om-my…. stuck!”

Everyday, little things

Just a few cute little somethings, that are so everyday, but I know I won’t remember when they’ve outgrown them.

EVERY time I get Solvei and Nels dressed, when I pull the shirt on they both say BOO when their head pops out of the shirt. Probably every kid does it (I think I remember Saedi and Gavin doing the same thing) but it’s still cute every time. After dressing them they will give you a hug as you lift them down from the changing table.

Solvei has started coming to sit next to you on the couch so that she can lay on your arm (she will also lay on you when sitting next to her at the table).

I gave Nels a piece of chocolate the other day. Solvei was in the other room and didn’t see it – didn’t know that I had given him anything. Nels goes into the room where she is, doesn’t say anything, and a few minutes later Solvei comes to me asking for chocolate. Somehow he had to make sure she got some too.
