Driving Saedi to school this morning, Nels told me about every car he saw. Our drive is mostly on busy roads (2-4 lane highways) so there are LOTS of other cars to look at. Towards the end of the drive he ran out of cars but that didn’t stop his commentary.

What Nels sees
All ready to play
Today is Saedi’s field day and she is so excited for everyone to see her. So here she is, slathered in sunscreen so don’t mind the sheen. We did her hair in “heidi braids” so you could see purple stripes, and she is proudly wearing her personalized shirt (she said she told her class about it yesterday for their last show-and-tell of the year and they “can’t wait to see it”).
Plum locks
When I cut and tried to dye Gavin’s hair, I told Saedi I would color hers too if she wanted.
She did want. She is my child after all.
I decided I would do it right before the end of school, so as to not be too much of a distraction. Since field day is tomorrow, we did it tonight.
We colored just the under side. I used a semi-permanent purple (plum) without lightening her natural color, so it ended up being a very subtle change, but she was happy.
Saedi’s feild day shirt fiasco
The middle of last month Saedi was sent home with a notice that we could order a shirt for field day. At the bottom in bold letters it said that orders would not be accepted after the due date, two weeks later. Also attached to the order sheet was a note from Saedi’s teacher saying that she would voluntarily Tye-dye her class’s shirts so everyone would match, but stand out from the rest of the school. This was pretty much the only time we were sent home a note about something that wasn’t for the very next day (the PTA here was not very organized), and I didn’t fill it out right away.
I realized that the shirt still hadn’t been ordered when we got home from picking Saedi up at school on the last day the orders would be accepted. There was no way I was driving another hour round trip just so I could go back and order her a shirt, she would have to live without it.
Unfortunately when I dropped Saedi off at school the next time, she remembered I hadn’t ordered the shirt and now it was too late. She got upset and started to cry.
I had already planned on asking her teacher if she would Tye-dye a regular shirt so Saedi would at least have something to match, and Saedi thought this was a good idea. I didn’t end up needing to ask though, because Saedi’s teacher sent a note that day saying anyone could bring in a shirt and she would dye it (apparently I wasn’t the only parent who either forgot to order or didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on the ugly school shirt). I even told Saedi that we could decorate hers after it was dyed to look cooler than anyone’s.
Then I got a little ambitious.
The order form that was sent home had a picture of the logo that would be printed on the ordered shirts (their colors were brown, black, and tan).
I decided to paint that! Saedi would still “match” everyone but be totally unique. I like the way it turned out.
We even put her name on it. After I was done with it Saedi told me that where I put her name is where it said STAFF on all the administrators shirts. =)
Bits of Solvei
Solvei has discovered she loves to be contradictory. At any time, but most often in the car, she will engage this attitude. Most car rides are now filled with “yes…no…yes…no…” and “uh-huh…uhn-uh…uh-huh…uhn-uh…” arguments between her and anyone who will play the counter-part.
Nate has been gone for a couple weeks and isn’t supposed to be back for a few more. Solvei really misses him. These are a few reasons why I know for sure:
-
She has realized that I talk to Nate on the phone everyday, so now whenever I am on the phone she asks if she can talk too (“Daddy hello?”) even when it isn’t him I’m talking to.
-
Every morning when I get the little ones up and dressed, Solvei asks “Daddy?” with a where-did-it-go expression. I tell her where he is and she says in her saddest and most disappointed tone, “oh.”
Solvei has become a hair twirler – mostly when her hair is in pigtails but sometimes when it’s not. Recently in the car she fell asleep while twirling her hair.
Identical Twins?
In the bath today I did up Nels’ mo-hawk with shampoo.
Solvei thought it was so funny she wanted me to do it to her. So she got her own faux-hawk to match.
Yard work, just a little yard work…
We have spent the entire weekend outside so I could do more yard work.
We started things off in the front yard and I brought out the bubble machine for the kids to play with. They played fine while I mowed but started to get tired of being in the front yard while I was still pruning bushes. I wish I had gotten pictures. Solvei decided (how come it’s always her?) to sit down next to the bubble machine so she could get the bubbles right away. Sitting-next-to turned into sitting-with-the-machine-between-my-legs which became sitting-with-the-machine-in-my-lap which resulted in Solvei sitting in a puddle of bubbles, wet from her waist to her toes (even her socks were wet inside her shoes). So when I was done pruning, the twins got a bath before lunch.
We did find a little visitor on the outside of our garage that fascinated the kids.
My mystery plants are:
Exhibit a)
Exhibit b)
Exhibit c) –This one is a bush with these flowers, you can kind of see the leaves in the photo
Exhibit d) –This one I think is some kind of garlic, but not sure what
close up of flowers
Exhibit e) –This one I’ve seen growing wild on the side of the roads here so I’m not sure if it was planted on purpose or just showed up.
Punk Chic
Only three weeks after the fact, I finally got Saedi’s bike (that she got for her birthday) built. In my defense the weather hasn’t been nice enough to ride it anyway, just cause it’s June doesn’t mean mother nature has gotten the message about it being almost summer.
Dollar deals
I really like the dollar section at Target. We peruse every time we go. Today when we went I found all the kids a pair of snoopy sunglasses. We have a car trip coming up and Solvei and Nels always complain about the “bright” when the sun is in their face, so if they all have sunglasses maybe I will hear less whining while driving when I can’t do anything about it. Since they were all only a dollar, it won’t hurt my feelings if they get broken.
Pretty rockin’ huh?
